Achievements on North Stradbroke Island 

I am particularly proud of these Council achievements on the Island:

  • Replaced pylons at Amity swimming enclosure
  • Upgraded Terra Bulla Leumeah
  • Provided funds for Museum extension
  • Lighting and surface upgrade for sporting grounds in Dunwich
  • Caravan parks and campground upgrade
  • Dunwich streetscape
  • Point Lookout trail map
  • NSI Fire Management Plan
  • Built the Amity Boat ramp
  • Worked with police & government agencies towards minimising impact of Schoolies and Sept School Holidays
  • Flinders Beach Management Plan
  • Upgrade to One Mile Jetty
  • Assisted negotiations between community groups and the Stradbroke Hotel during its redevelopment
  • Planted street trees
  • Point Lookout Hall extension and refurbishment
  • Negotiated with the State Government to prevent increased water extraction prior to scientific studies being done
  • Fought to keep the Amity Point library open
  • Cylinder Beach Master Plan
  • Weed management at Point Lookout Heritage Reserve
  • Feral animal trapping program
  • Amity Point Sport and Recreation Reserve Masterplan
  • Supported the free Courtesy Bus at Point Lookout in peak holiday times
  • Reduced speed along the Main Road through the townships
  • Sponsor of Straddie Assault
  • Supporter of the Salt Water Murris
  • Worked for the return of the Kooringal Trader (now the Amith Trader)
  • Introduced Voluntary Code of Practice for Holiday Rental Agents
  • Secured transfer of campgrounds to community ownership
  • Represented the community interest on the ferry merger
  • Successfully lobbied for introduction of broadband to NSI
  • Introduced new tourism strategy
  • Stood up against paid parking at Toondah Harbour
  • Worked with Island Vibe organisers to run successful events over a number of years
  • Pushed for ‘transition’ funding from the State government
  • Pushed for a islander-needs solution at Toondah Harbour
  • New bin arrangements for recycling bins
  • Commercial use of public open space study to mediate commercial and amenity considerations
  • Part of negoitiations that successfully finalized decade-old Native Title claim
  • Quandamooka Indigenous Community Plan and formal recognition at Council
  • Initiated Amity Foreshore Management Plan
  • New tourism strategy
  • Instigated Council salaries being set by an independent third party
  • Rates reform.
